We use the first thirty minutes of the school day to provide important time for students to develop their independent work habits and time management skills.
In addition to the ten minutes allotted to breakfast, students are given a list of expectations that they are expected to complete over a four-day period. Most students choose the order in which to complete the tasks and must budget time in order to finish all assignments. During this time teachers give individual and small group support, provide extensions for students who need enrichment, and coordinate other management tasks. We value this time as a way of fostering students’ ability to self-regulate.
